Mmmmm...tastes like..Blogging...

This blog is in the middle of a restructuring, and a focusing. Will it be about my baking projects?? Will it be about my life as a student? Who knows??

Murphy's law = When sleeping space is needed, it will be there!

Ok, now that I've got a week in between myself and that crazy annoying experience at the movie theater, maybe I can give you an acutal update about my life. If anyone still reads this.

So, a couple weekends ago, my parents came out here for a visit. It really was a great time. When they got here, they got the chance to check out the condo that Marvin and I are going to be renting this next year (which is AWESOME!!! I'll tell you about it later). We spent the rest of their time here hiking and eating pretty much. We ended up grilling out their last night here, and that was a really fun time. We opened up a bottle of wine that Marvin brought back from Italy, and just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company. I think that was my favorite time of their whole visit.

As mentioned, Marvin and I are renting a new place for this next year. We just signed the lease yesterday, and (in the words of a co-worker of mine) this place is PIMP! It's got a HUGE jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. It's got a murphy bed in the second bedroom (which, in case you guys don't know, is one of those beds that pulls out of the wall). Vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, solar heat panels on the roof, a covered parking space, an actual dining room, a much better kitchen (with a trash compactor, that I have no idea how to use), two decks, AND it's in an AWESOME neighborhood. It's right across the street from a park. It's within a couple of blocks of Old Colorado City. We move in on the 20th, and I'm SO excited!!!! No more of this one bedroom apartment in the ghetto crap. Anyways, if anyone is interested in coming out here and checking this place out, we'll have room for you! We'll just pull the bed out of the wall!!! :)

As far as work goes, life isn't quite so rosy. I'm majorly stressed out about this place. I'm thinking that by the time school starts in the fall, I'm going to want a new job that pays better and isn't quite so taxing on my psyche. My boys are getting more and more toxic as far as the way they treat each other and me. A manager caught one of them cutting on himself a few days ago when no one was watching him. (I had specifically asked one staff member to keep an eye on him). It's just getting to be too much. Marvin and I watched Hostage (Bruce Willis movie) last night, and I could hardly stand it, because the kids that took the family hostage reminded me of kids that I know. I don't like that. I think it's time for me to maybe find a job that I can work with kids that don't have so many issues. It's not that I don't love my boys, and it's not that I think that kids with issues don't deserve as much love as kids that don't, it's just that I'm not sure I've got the strength to deal with it for an extended period of time.

Anyways, onwards and upwards. I don't think I've mentioned much about Marvin's trip and return to Italy. He left for Italy about a month ago to work at the Paralympics in Torino for about two weeks. We didn't get a whole lot of time to chat while he was there, but it sounds like it was a really cool experience for him. He came back with a bunch of Italian chocolate and some Italian wine, and A BEARD!! :) Surprisingly, I think it looks pretty good on him. So, now there is facial hair. Ha ha. :)

So, I think I should try to get something accomplished today, so I'm off. Someone come visit me!!

Sarah angry...Sarah SMASH!

OK, so my weekend was going pretty well. Yesterday Marvin and I went to see V for Vendetta on I-Max and it was great. We had dinner at a great Mexican place. I got to hang out with a friend of mine. Today, we went for a hike up the incline. We had a blizzard and a burger at DQ. We went to a cheesy bad zombie movie (Slither). And that's where everything tanked. Not because of the movie. The movie, even though it was anything but cinematic gold, was fun and entertaining. What killed my weekend was the people at the movie. I've realized that people SUCK!!

First of all, right behind us at the theater was a couple. This was a very annoying couple. They weren't making out throughout the movie. Oh no. That would have at least been easy to ignore. No no, they decided that they needed to have a conversation throughout the whole movie about what they had done the night before, what they were going to do tomorrow, what their friends were doing, etc etc etc. Now this makes no sense to me. If they wanted to have a conversation, I can't, for the life of me, understand why they would want to pay 7 bucks a piece to sit in a dark theater and ignore a movie while they were talking. Why didn't they go to Applebees and order a 7 dollar burger and chat there? Why didn't they go bowling? Why didn't they stay at home??? Why did they insist on going to a movie and sitting right behind me and wrecking my movie experience??

Unfortunately though, that was the least of my annoyances. Marvin and I had gone in and sat down and the movie was about fifteen minutes in. One of the characters had just discovered some slimy gooey alien pod, and all of the sudden I hear a voice that doesn't sound more than 10 years old say "Eeeew don't touch that!!" It wasn't from the screen that I heard this voice. It was a couple rows behind me, in the seats. Now keep in mind that this is a ZOMBIE MOVIE!!! I can't think of one zombie movie that isn't rated R. I can't think of one zombie movie that isn't just ridiculously gory and violent. I can't think of one zombie movie that wouldn't give a small child nightmares. Maybe 15 minutes after that, right when the zombie part starts to escalate, I see a mother walk out with her young daughter, and I think "Whew. Ok, so maybe this woman isn't the brightest lightbulb in the box and she didn't bother to figure out what kind of movie she was taking her daughter to, but at least now she's taking her daughter out of there to minimize the damage. " Boy was I wrong. Five minutes later, SHE COMES BACK!!!!!! She sits with her daughter through the entire movie. Now, I'm already upset enough that a parent would decide that this movie was appropriate for young children, but after the movie's over, Marvin and I stayed around to watch the credits for a little bit. And we see, not one parent and one child, but a group of parents and at least four or five children, none of whom have hit their teens yet. There was a GROUP of ADULTS who all got together and decided that an R rated ZOMBIE MOVIE would be the best place to bring their children on a Monday night. What??? WHAT????? There's not much that makes me more enraged than bad parents. I didn't think it was legal to let kids that young in to R-rated movies. What on earth would make any rational adult think that it was OK to bring their young children into that movie??? What delinquent teenager working at the ticket booth agreed to give tickets to those kids??? It's events like this that make me think that everyone should be placed on mandatory birth control until they can pass some sort of "good parent" test. I mean, I work with kids who refuse to shower, even in their early teens, because of a scene in a movie they saw when they were little. If this was these parents' idea of a great "family fun night", I shudder to think of other "family" activities that they plan. And anyways, why are they bringing their children to a late movie on a SCHOOL NIGHT???? These are the same kind of people who expect school teachers to be the parents during the school year. These are the same kind of people who blame the teacher when their kids mess up. These are the same kind of people who can't understand why their kids are failing school when their children told them every day that they didn't have any homework (and of course didn't bother to check up on that). ARRRGGGGG!!!!!! PEOPLE MAKE ME ANGRY!!!!!!

I could never work in a movie theater, because if I was working the ticket booth and people like that came in and tried to buy their children movie tickets for that kind of movie, I would tell them "Umm yeah, I'm sorry, but this movie is rated R for a reason. I will not sell you tickets so that your 7 year-old can watch this movie and lose his innocence far sooner than he should. Now, if you would like to go home and find your child a babysitter that is willing to sit down and spend time with your son and watch Aladdin with him for the 50 billionth time, I would be glad to sell tickets to you and your spouse, but until then, I suggest you either go home or find a different movie to watch."

This is the same reason I could never work at a video game store. I saw the other day, in Best Buy, a young boy, about 7 or 8 years old, playing Doom on one of the video game demos that they had set up. If his mom had tried to buy Doom or Grand Theft Auto or whatever from me I'd probably say "Now, ma'am, I'm sorry that you have a hard time saying 'no' to your son, but since you are a parent, I think you had better learn how to do so pretty fast. I suggest you grow up and buy your son Harry Potter or something rather than subjecting him to games that glorify violence and prostitution and theft." And then I think I'd probably get fired.

Grr....anyways....I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I promise I'll be back soon with a less rant-y post. I just had to get that off my chest.
